eIF2alpha is a protein encoded by the EIF2S1 gene which is approximately 36,1 kDa. eIF2alpha is localised to the cytoplasmic granule and is involved in viral mRNA translation, influenza A, translation factors and regulation of lipid metabolism. It functions in the early steps of protein synthesis by forming a ternary complex with GTP and initiator tRNA. This complex binds to a 40S ribosomal subunit, followed by mRNA binding to form a 43S preinitiation complex. eIF2alpha is expressed in the liver, nervous system, lung, blood and kidney. Mutations in the EIF2S1 gene result in Wolcott-Rallison syndrome. The antibody STJ90253 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This primary antibody specifically binds to endogenous eIF2alpha protein which only binds about S51 when S51 is phosphorylated.
