Akt1 is a protein encoded by the oncogene AKT1 which is approximately 55,7 kDa. Akt1 is localised to the cytoplasma, nucleus and cell membrane. It is involved in RET signalling, the regulation of lipid metabolism, insulin signalling-generic cascades, common cytokine receptor gamma-chain family signalling pathways and apoptotic pathways. This protein falls under the AKT kinase family. The AKT1 isoform has a specific role in cell motility and proliferation. By activating serine/threonine kinase AKT1 apoptosis can be suppressed by phosphorylating and therby inactivating components of the apoptotic machinery. Mutations in the AKT1 gene can result in breast cancer, colorectal cancer, Cowden syndrome 6 and Proteus syndrome which causes overgrowth. STJ90166 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This primary antibody specifically binds to endogenous Akt1 protein which only binds about S246 when S246 is phosphorylated.
