CK7 is a protein encoded by the KRT7 gene which is approximately 51,3 kDa. CK7 is localised to the cytoplasm. It is involved in cytoskeletal signalling, developmental biology and keratinization. It is a type II cytokeratin that consists of basic or neutral proteins which are arranged in pairs of heterotypic keratin chains co-expressed during differentiation of simple and stratified epithelial tissues. It also blocks interferon-dependent interphase and stimulates DNA synthesis in cells. CK7 is expressed in epidermal, bronchial and mesothelial cells. Mutations in the KRT7 gene may result in pseudo myxoma peritonei and eccrine adenocarcinoma. STJ96956 was developed from clone 12D7 and was affinity-purified from mouse ascites by affinity-chromatography using specific immunogen. This antibody detects endogenous CK7 proteins.
