Nrf2 is a protein encoded by the NFE2L2 gene which is approximately 67,8 kDa. Nrf2 is localised to the cytoplasm and nucleus. It is involved in fluid shear stress and atherosclerosis, protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum and MAPK signalling. It is a transcription activator that binds to antioxidant response elements in the promoter regions of target genes and is important for the coordinated up-regulation of genes in response to oxidative stress. Nrf2 is widely expressed with the highest expression in adult muscle, kidney, lung, liver and in foetal muscle. Mutations in the NFE2L2 gene may result in Parkinson’s disease. STJ96702 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of Nrf2 protein.
