P63 is a protein encoded by the TP63 gene which is approximately 76,8 kDa. P63 is localised to the nucleus and is involved in the regulation of transcription of cell death genes, activation of BH3-only proteins, regulation of TP53 activity and gene expression. This protein falls under the p53 family of transcription factors. p63 acts as a sequence specific DNA binding transcriptional activator or repressor. By interacting with TP73/p73 it may also be required for initiation of p53/TP53 dependent apoptosis in response to genotoxic insults and the presence of activated oncogenes. It is expressed in the skin, muscle, blood and lungs. Mutations in the TP63 gene can result in ectrodactyly and Rap-Hodgkin syndrome. STJ96548 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of p63 protein.
