Sp1 is a protein encoded by the SP1 gene which is approximately 80,7 kDa. Sp1 is localised to the nucleus and cytoplasm. It is involved in the IL-2 pathway, regulation of lipid metabolism, transcriptional activity , glioma and development endothelin-1/EDNRA signalling. Sp1 is a transcription factor that can activate or repress transcription in response to physiological and pathological stimuli. It binds with high affinity to GC-rich motifs and regulates the expression of a large number of genes involved in a variety of processes such as cell growth, apoptosis, differentiation and immune responses. Isoform 3 is ubiquitously expressed at low levels. Mutations in the SP1 gene may result in Huntington disease, breast cancer and pancreatic cancer. STJ95738 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of Sp1 protein.
