NOS3 is a protein encoded by the NOS3 gene which is approximately 133,2 kDa. NOS3 is localised to the cell membrane, Golgi apparatus and cytoplasm. It is involved in eNOS activation and regulation, activation of cAMP-dependent PKA, arginine biosynthesis and vascular smooth muscle contraction. It is a reactive free radical which acts as a biologic mediator in several processes, including neurotransmission and antimicrobial and antitumoral activities. Together with inducible nitric oxide synthase and neuronal nitric oxide synthase, it catalyses nitric oxide and L-citrulline generation from L-arginine and molecular oxygen. NOS3 is expressed in platelets, placenta, liver and kidney. Mutations in the NOS3 gene may result in Alzheimer disease and hypertension. STJ94539 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of NOS3 protein.
