NOS2 is a protein encoded by the NOS2 gene which is approximately 131,1 kDa. NOS2 is localised to the cytoplasm. It is involved in arginine biosynthesis, toxoplasmosis, G-beta gamma signalling and PEDF induced signalling. It is a nitric oxide synthase messenger molecule with diverse functions throughout the body. In macrophages, it mediates tumoricidal and bactericidal actions and is also involved in inflammation by enhancing the synthesis of proinflammatory mediators such as IL6 and IL8. NOS2 is expressed in the liver, retina, bone cells and airway epithelial cells of the lung. Mutations in the NOS2 gene may result in borderline leprosy and Peyronie’s disease. STJ94534 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of NOS2 protein.
